Marcia Weiss
Professor Marcia Weiss is Co-Director and one of the co-founders of the IDEA studio. She is the Director of the Fashion & Textiles Futures Center, Director of the B.S. and M.S. Textile Design programs and the Harold Neuman Textile Design Chair at Thomas Jefferson University. Professor Weiss brings to the classroom extensive experience running design and product development teams in the home furnishings and automotive interiors industries. As an associate professor, she teaches advanced woven courses as well as capstone and thesis experiences at the graduate and undergraduate levels. When not on campus, Professor Weiss focuses her research on multi-layer woven ikats, inspired by artisanal practices in West Africa and Central Asia. Her artwork has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections in the US, Europe and the UK. In recognition of her teaching and research interests, she has been awarded the 2020 Lindback Award for Teaching Excellence at Thomas Jefferson University, a 2016 Nexus Learning Grant from Philadelphia University and numerous grants from Cotton Incorporated and the Cotton Board. Professor Weiss holds a Bachelor of Science in Textile Design from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and a Master of Fine Arts in Fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
