Crochet Morphologies for Sensorial Experiences

Juan Barascout Gonzalez

The concept driving this project is based on the sensorial attributes of textiles for children populations. Physical explorations of crochet techniques and digital simulation informed the project in terms of material applicaton and form finding. The playscape acts as a temporary structure that moves from one location to another without staying in a permanent location. The resulting structure ‘Critter’ is conceived as a structure that accommodates different needs. The texture of the surface is embedded onto the fabric using the treble crochet stitch that decreases in density in the y-axis and decreases in texture in the x-axis. It allows for transition spaces between dense areas of overload stimuli. The crochet stitches pull the fabric together to create ruffles towards the edges that bend over backward within themselves.
